I cut it into small rectangular pieces usually around 1-2" by 1" and apply those to the wound(s). Cutting those pieces out of the big square 4"x4" patch is easy for me with any reasonably sharp scissor. I also usually apply a little bit of saline solution to the material before applying it to the wound. Just enough to make the patch moist but not drenched. That was advice from the nurses in the wound clinic we have gone to.

Can you save unused portion for later use?

Yes you can. Just make sure you close the package tightly. I always place my unused pirtion in a ziplock bag

The longest time is 7 days. If large amount of wound exudate, it needs to be replaced within 1-2 days.
