After dealing with ongoing hormone imbalance and low energy, I decided to try the Pure Encapsulations DHEA 10 mg, and it’s been a real game-changer for me. I first bought Pure Encapsulations DHEA in 10mg increments to start off on a low dosage....my doctor wanted me to start taking 25 mg 3 x day so I kept the 10mg bottle and also purchased the 25 mg bottle as well. I have only been taking this supplement for a month and a half now so can't speak to if it has caused any different for me internally...I can say that I was very concerned about acne and hair loss before starting DHEA, and I haven't really noticed any terrible side effects using this brand. After about 3 weeks of use I noticed that my face is a bit more oily than normal, but I have also recently began eating fish and eggs 2x a week so I'm not sure if it's the DHEA causing the oiliness or the animal protein. DHEA is not something that a person can get from food (so don't confuse it with DHA which is something you get with a fish oil supplement). DHEA is a hormone that's produced in our bodies and after the age of 30 it rapidly declines. You want to be very careful with your dosages of this supplement as it's not something you want to take a high dosage of unless instructed by your physician. From age 30-35 a low dosage of about 25-50 mg a day will be safe to take and from age 35-40 about 50-75 mg a day is considered a safe low dosage. I still would not go over about 75-100 mg ever without talking to you're doctor to be sure he thinks you need it...just to be on the safe side. DHEA is dubbed the "fountain of youth" and for good reason....it gives you that extra oomph you're missing as you start to get a bit older. It is also very good for woman over the age of 30 who are trying to get pregnant as there are many studies that DHEA taken over a course of 3 months helped with egg quality and increased pregnancy rates! If you're someone diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve, you should definitely look into supplementing with DHEA. Who is this not for? If you are diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) you probably don't want to take this supplement and should talk to your doctor before doing so. This supplement increases testosterone and has an androgenic effect which is someone a woman with pcos is already struggling with. You don't want to make your symptoms worse. Why I went this this brand? I really like the lack of fillers and dyes in this supplement. I do my best to steer clear of magnesium stearate, even when it's listed as from a "vegetable source". Pure encapsulations has no dyes, magnesium stearates, gluten, soy, or other hypoallergenic fillers. My acupuncturist referred this brand to me after I already purchased it on Amazon, so I know I made a smart choice!
