An added stitch-down toecap enhances durability and forefoot support. In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul. Review: Initial Impression: They’re Great Shoe : lil soft on cushion & arches - Update 2016-12-08 Just got blue pair I ordered and they look really good too. These blue colored versions will go good with a lot of my athletic attire. See 13 pics attached. The pics with Under Armour leggings are with a different shoe not the Asics but will look good with these blue Asic GT-2000 5s. ###################### I've been a Nike shoe fan for many years and always ran in neutral shoes... Recently I've had issues with over pronation ( foot rolling inward at ankle ) which required a shoe with " motion control ". Nike used to make running shoes with " motion control " that were very good 6 yrs ago but stopped for some reason making them. I just ran out of my supply of shoes. ( I stock up on shoes once I find pairs that I like, are comfortable, have great cushion, stability, arch support & motion control ). I discovered Brooks Beast 14s & 16s late August and Brooks GTS 17s in late October and they are phenomenal running shoes ( see my reviews for Beast 16s & GTS 17s for more details ). Love Brooks Beast 16s for cushion, support & stability. Love Brooks GTS 17s because they are light and have excellent but a little less cushion, support & stability than Beast 16s... I also like having various styles of running shoes and flexibility to alternate and use different pairs depending on mood and/or style want to wear on any given day. I just learned about Asics' GT-2000 5 & GEL-Foundation 12s about a week earlier. 2016-12-08 Update: I just received the blue version of the same shoe and the look great. The blue version will also match my blue Under Armour leggings too. There's plenty of room in the toe box area and the heels are snug and feel great inside the heel cup. The shoes look very good, cushion is good but feels a little squishy all around the heel area, but not as squishy as the Asic Keyano 23s. While arch support is there, it feels a lil weak. I'll wear them around inside house for awhile before taking them outside, just in case arch support and possibly cushion isn't firm enough and I have to return shoes to get full refund. Real test will come when used outside for several consecutive miles in one session... My initial impression of the GT-2000 5s is they are a very good looking shoe, feel great, are very comfortable; however, I think they may not be as comfortable on a 3 to 7 mile walk or run as cushion & arch support may compress or collapse too much. I'm a big guy so if you're light, then it probably won't matter as much... Best of success in whatever you end up with... Review: Geezer coolness - Sore feet. I deal with it every day, so I buy shoes with the gel sols. They work wonderfully and keep me working. I remember my poor grandfather wearing strangely alien looking slippers to work because they had soft soles. They were ugly things.... but these make me look fast and efficient. The thing that wears out for me is the inside heel right on my achilles tendon. The material tears and I get a skin scrape where it wears out. So I use about 4 pairs a year. I order them in November because that is when the shoe sales start. I think the regular retail price is way over priced for us old geezers on SS for a pair of tennis shoes. But sale prices bring the price down somewhat of an affordable price. Still one heck of a huge OUCH! They fit exactly as expected, the 4E is plenty wide for my planters, I do have to replace the insole with a softer bubble heel insert. No, it is not the insert that destroys the heel cup. I'd recommend these as well as any of the ASIC's full gel sole shoes for old geezers with sore feet. Besides, your grandkids will think you are cool!

Geezer coolness
Sore feet. I deal with it every day, so I buy shoes with the gel sols. They work wonderfully and keep me working. My first pair ever. Sure won't be my last. Great Shoes!!
This is my first pair of Asics shoes. I honestly never thought I would wear them. I happened to see them shopping one day and needed all black shoes. I tried them on and was pleasantly surprised with how they fit. So of course I checked amazon and they had them cheaper! So i bought them online instead. Some details I like are listed below: -Wide toe box. I have very wide feet so these fit awesome! I don't have to worry about having sore feet for the first several days of wearing them. -Most of the shoe is made of a mesh material. These are great for the summer as it helps prevent athletes foot with the sweat. -All black!! Most companies are getting away from all black shoes. Anymore its difficult to find all black athletic shoes. -Comfy overall. From day 1 i didn't have any issues with sore feet from breaking these shoes in. - For anyone who runs at night you know all about wearing reflective clothes. These shoes have a small reflective area on the back of the sneakers to help light you up! Another great feature about the Asics GT-1000. The only thing that may effect some choices are they are not very waterproof. With being mostly made of mesh material your feet will get wet quicker then other shoes. But just stay out of the puddles and you will be good!

A bit tight, but seems good. Time Will Tell....
Overall I'm happy with this running shoe. I wore out a couple of GT-1000 3's which I was very happy with. They lasted, and provided great support. The construction of the shoes seems similar. One very important thing to note is that my version 3's were size 8.5, and fit perfectly. Ordered the same size and should have paid attention to other reviews. 8.5 is a bit tight, but I'm going to keep these anyway and use for walking, not running. I did not request a return. Seller emailed me several times asking if everything was OK and offering help if not. As mentioned I chose not to return. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 only because it's difficult for me to rate a running shoe as soon as I purchase it. In my opinion, they have to be evaluated over time. That may not seem fair, but I'm being urged to post a review, and if so, that's how it's gonna be.

Great product at a great price.
Great product at a great price. I use the product for daily running, after a couple of months of use the shoe is very reliable, endures time like a champion, I do not run a lot, probably 30 to 40 miles a week, but still feels and perform like the first day. The break in process on this pair seem to be a little longer than expected, They are not bad out of the box by no means, but the box and toes felt a little tight for the first 20 miles or so, after that they loosen up a bit. Keep in mind this is an arc support shoe, with that being said the shoe weight and thickness is in line with the type of shoe, a little bulkier than a regular shoe. This is a decent training shoe and it is highly recommended if you are looking for a training shoe and you don't want to spend a lot.

Good Shoe for Lightweight Over-pronator
I'm an over-pronator -- nearly flat feet -- but a lightweight guy, 130-35 pounds, and these shoes work just fine for me: I don't need the added weight & expense of motion-control shoes. I've had several pairs of the GT-1000 line and I alternate wearing them with the Mizuno Wave Inspires, which also work very well. (I.e., at any given time I have an older pair of one & a newer pair of the other, switching back and forth every run or two.) As noted, the GT-1000s fit a leetle on the large side. However for running shoes, that's better than a bit too small, and I can adjust by wearing slightly thicker socks with these if desired. Another fit factor is, I have a narrow heel, and these shoes fit snugly in the back with no lifting out of them: that's one place where you want a nice close fit. Otherwise it's a very good shoe -- so if it fits, wear it!

Great shoes, but I prefer the ASICS Nimbus.
I have been using ASICS shoes for years and decided to try out another series from them instead of the usual Nimbus shoes because, the pricing on the Nimbus can be quite high. After browsing online for a variety of different reviews and opinions I eventually settled on these GT-1000 5 shoes based on the cost. To preface this I want to cover my habits wearing them. I use these shoes strictly for exercise and walk/run in them for 2-3 miles every other day for three days per week. That being said I have been using them for about two months at the time of this review and they have held up well. There are no holes in the heel of the shoe which is common on other shoes I have worn and the shoes still like they are in visibly good shape. The actual fit of the shoe has also been good. They fit as expected which I think relates to the fact that I usually wear ASICS Nimbus so it isn't like I expected the sizing to be off moving to this one. They feel good to walk or run in for the most part, but after running for about 20 minutes in them my feet start to seriously hurt. I think it might be related to the lack of padding in them because I am used to my Nimbus shoes which kind of give the impression you are running on a cloud. Overall I am very happy with these shoes for the cost, but I think for the future I will just stick with the Nimbus shoes.

Stylish, high quality running/walking shoe. Initially felt tight, but have broken in great!
These Asics GT-2000 running shoes are great. As a repeat, but not exclusive to, Asics wearer I can say that these shoes are very comfortable, supportive to wear for running and for long periods of time and they hold up well to both indoor and outdoor use. The style is nice, not too light but not Herman Munster bulky either and the colors and fabric look nice even after several months. At first, these sneakers felt tighter, but that is presumably from the additional padding they have, padding which conforms to your feet as you wear them and break them in. Overall, these were a great shoe for the price.
