Interactive Notebooks and English Language Learners: How to Scaffold Content for Academic Success 1st Edition

This book is amazing! It's well-written and has a variety of examples that show you exactly how to get started using Interactive Notebooks in your classroom. I was so excited that I immediately began using them in my classroom. I have been amazed at how engaged the students are with their notebooks. They are thinking on a higher level and summarizing the new concepts they are learning with ease. Writing lesson plans with the interactive notebook in mind also keeps me more focused as a teacher. I feel so organized and I believe that my students are benefiting from this. Even though this book is recommended for use with ELL students, I believe it's highly beneficial for all students and teachers.

I bought this book because I'm such a huge fan of TCI History Alive curriculum and the use of interactive noteebooks is a critical part of those materials. I'm an English Learner teacher and specialist, and have found notebook use to be one of the best, most rigorous scaffolding tools teachers have available. This book isn't just a book with lots of pretty pictures and how-tos; rather it provides an in depth background and rationale for using interactive notebooks as part of one's teaching repetoire to ensure high level content literacy and language development across the curriculum, on a daily basis, and in a way that provides an accurate and visual account of student learning.

Waste of time. You can find articles on line which are better than the information in this book.

I teach ESL grades 9-12 and I plan on implementing an interactive notebook for next year. I am thinking that this will be a great way to engage students and enhance classroom participation. The book offers some examples of lesson plans and how to use the interactive notebook. It also goes over how to set it up. Good buy and timely shipping.

I bought this because I'm a professional student always looking how to improve learning strategies the older I get. This is a take on the Cornell System of Notetaking. I found it interesting and will apply some of the techniques even though I am not taking a class right now. Written for teachers with examples. Would have liked to have seen some college-level examples too, but I suspect I am not the normal intended audience.

This book is full of great ideas and tips for using interactive notebooks. Although many of her examples are for the older grades, it is easily adaptable to the middle elementary grades (third and up). Since reading, I have planned out our reading interactive journal and math interactive journal for next year. Can't wait to put these ideas to use!

I really liked the 3-D Graphic Organizers. I can use them in my adult ESL Class.

I have been using Interactive Notebooks for a few years now, and every year I look for new ideas to help improve the organization of these notebooks along w/ ideas that would provide sheltered instruction for my ELL students. I am so excited to put these ideas to work in my classroom next school year. This book is super helpful!
