Excellent basic laptop for the price.
It's slim and lightweight, not too fast, not recomended formulti tasking or complex software, but is ok for everyday usage like web browsing, email, word processor, etc. Doesn't heat too much, you can work with it on your lap. You can't remove the battery (uses an internal battery). But is an ok, entry level, every day laptop.

It's just ok.
It feels as cheap as the price. The "mouse and click" pad area is loud and seems to have a delayed response. Example; impossible to play a game that is timed based because when you press the click corner (left bottom corner) of the mouse it doesn't deliver instant action. There is a 2 to 3 second delay...a killer if playing speed response games. You have to hold the corner down longer or tap more than once, no quick tap and go here. I play the same game on my son's gateway and its like night and day. The same goes for general use, you have to click several times to open up a page or perform an action. Other than that it performs like other laptops, I guess.

Nice looking laptop with good memory
I bought two of these laptops for my husband and I. While I know many people are moving to storing everything on a cloud, I really like being able to still have my items stored on my laptop as well. We've had these laptops for four months and have not had any issues whatsoever. I like how it starts up relatively fast and I never have issues with my laptop freezing or being slow like I've had with past computers. The design is sleek and the mouse pad works great. One thing I Have noticed is that the number lock automatically turns off after awhile. I'm not sure if that's a common thing but it is new to me. Overall I really like this laptop and so does my husband. We use our laptops for school, work and streaming movies and TV shows. The Windows 10.1 software is great and a HUGE step up from the 8.1. This laptop really is great quality for the price.

Almost Great, but still def worth the money
After using this all day for my tedious business work. I can sum this computer up in a very brief description. Screen resolution is fantastic, keyboard is great (except arrow keys, far to small) super light weight, all the ports are great(except they are most definitely on the wrong side, but again excusable) haven't used the volume yet so I'm not sure about audio. Apps and web searching is almost perfect, a little confusing to customize(but just might be because I'm not computer savy). Memory is great considering how affordable this laptop is. The configureation and setup on it in general is almost great, really nice over all though. My two big complaints why this doesn't deserve 5 stars is one, battery life, drops from 100 to 90 percent as soon as you unplug it after it states fully charged(this is after one day mind you, I can't imagine after a year) and by far the number one thing is for stating it has 4gb of ram, its awfully slow... Not at everything. Like once it loads up the site it runs efficiently. But danget it might take 2 minutes to load up the email home page, or a very basic website at that. Otherwise the pc is well worth the value.

I'm very happy with this computer
I'm very happy with this computer. My previous one just died on me in the middle of a project, and two days later, I had this one. It was a seamless move from the old to the new. This one is fast, up to date, and perfectly fits my needs. I don't watch movies on it, so I can't comment on that, but it's just right for someone like me who needs internet, email, and a word processor.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!
I never write bad reviews, but this product upset me so badly that I just have to warn the rest of you. If I could give it big old ZERO for stars, I would, and that still wouldn't be low enough. First of all, I received it in a damaged box, which I don't think has anything to do with the problem, but that was the first negative experience right off the bat. After opening the box I realized there's nothing that comes with this product other than the small warranty card. There's no user manual, nor is there a disc for uploading any programs. While going through the blind set up, I was able to get connected to my WiFi connection, but when it came to connecting to any type of internet connection, it said "Looks like you're not connected to the internet." So then I went through the trouble shooting options, and there just wasn't any correcting the problem. The only reason I bought this laptop, was so I could burn cds and dvds. Well, that's useless too. There's no media player to recognize the cd I tried putting in. I would have gone online to download media player, but that brings me back to my original problem, NO internet access!! Not only am I unhappy with all of the above, but the quality/build of this thing is just so shoddy it's ridiculous. You can see the plastic bend in and out as you type with the keyboard and the disc tray looks like it could snap right off if you just so happen to hit it by accident with your hand. I put a cd in and absolutely nothing happened. No options, no automatic play, just nothing. I'm definitely sending it back, and hope to get my full refund. It's products like this that make me never want to deal with Amazon again, just because they endorse it. Now I can't say anything bad about Amazon, because for the most part they always do right by me, but they need to get cheap Chinese products like these off of their site. It's a real shame good people get scammed into buying products like this. Save your money!!!! Buy name brand!! Don't be an idiot like I was. Unfortunately when I bought this, there were no reviews nor could I find any information on it anywhere online. Heck, I couldn't, they didn't even provide the I.D. serial #, so here it is for you; the (ASUS X553S) You need to watch out for reviews on any of the Chinese products. They always make artificial reviews that are not written by a real customer. They give it 5 stars and usually say things like, "Oh is great! Come way before time. Sound good. Like a very much!" Well don't fall for it. Sneaky little scam artists, they're dirty snakes. Now don't make the same mistake I made! Please be smart. DO NOT BUY!!!!!
