Does this glass work with the cheaper silver household version ?

Yes, Breville actually sells a bundle on their own that contains the regular silver smoking gun with this cloche.

Is there a base to that you can use with this? It would work much better if you had a fitted base.

It doesn't come with a base. However, it looks great and works perfectly on any plate or board larger than 8" diameter
