Constraining Designs for Synthesis and Timing Analysis: A Practical Guide to Synopsys Design Constraints (SDC) 2013th Edition

The book is conceptual, what is ok, but it fails on leveraging any knowledge than the basics. Other downside is that it promises to cover things that it does not. For example, on Chapter 3 it says that on Chapter 9 they will be showing how to constraint input/output delays using virtual clocks. It simply does not!

An excellent handbook for Synopsys Design Constraints (SDC). The context in which the SDCs are typically used is nicely explained. It becomes very useful for people like me (EDA engineers) who have to understand how the designers use the Constraints in their world. Most material on SDCs are about the different options that a particular SDC has, but never explains clearly why one might use the option.

This is a very practical book written from point of view of mainly synthesis and less focus on physical design aspects. Though the book lacks detailed theory about timing analysis(parasitic modeling, extraction etc.), however I think information goen is still enough information to start writing tcl design constraints in sdc file. This book actually fills the gap that most theory oriented STA books usually donot capture.

I was very disappointed with this book, considering the price. I was hoping for some more detailed real world examples. The level of detail presented can just be found with some simple google searching.

I read 4 chapters from this book and as much as it is informative, the price does not justify the contents. This is a theoretical book and useful for someone who is new to timing analysis and wants to prepare for an interview. A simple googling or PrimeTime documentation will give more information that this book. Not worth the price.

I'm a total beginner in FPGA constraints and this book really gave me context about what STA is and what is it used for. I contains only a couple of small examples or three, and does not contain solved exercises to practice.

This book does an excellent job of providing an overview on SDC, giving you a solid understanding of the basics. It provides many do's and don'ts, which makes it a 'practical guide'. However, it does not dig too much into the details, so additional reading/googling will be needed. It is very well written and structured, with high quality content, making it a pleasure to read. The more difficult parts are supported by clear figures and examples. Highly recommendable.

Very helpful reference and pretty good descriptions. Needs more discussion on low power.
